Front Porch Give Back

“Front Porch Give Back, A Community of Giving Back” We have spent a lot of hard work on making this dream turn into reality here at Front Porch Realty. Front Porch Give Back, once just an amazing idea in Laura’s mind, once just a bunch of boxes filled with unused household supplies, once just a basement to store supplies for the business…now a place for those in need to come shop free of charge for household items. What can you donate? Kitchen tables & chairs, coffee tables & end tables, working lamps, dressers & nightstands, small working kitchen appliances (toasters, coffee pots, microwaves, blenders, etc.), dishes, cutlery, pots & pans, glasses, gift cards, light bulbs, cleaning supplies. Where can you donate? You may drop off at our office anytime during business hours; Monday – Friday from 9am – 5pm located at 604 N. Main Street, Fuquay-Varina, NC.
I asked Laura Moody a few questions regarding Front Porch Give Back –
1. Where did the idea come from?
“I have always wanted to “give-back” to the youth of my community as I am an adoptee myself.  My twin brother and I (as well as our older adopted brother) could have easily grown up in foster care if we had not been adopted into a loving home.  When young adults age out of our Wake county foster care system they are set up in an apartment and given only a bed and an alarm clock. We wanted a way to be able to connect the unwanted household items of our sellers with the needs of our community’s young adults and families.  Our recipients are by referral only from our local schools, churches and anyone else wanting to help.”
2. What is a long term goal with FPGB?
“My long term goal is to keep a fully stocked office basement full of furniture and household goods so that anyone that needs help can receive it.  I would also love to have it stocked with basic cleaning supplies and other household needs a lot of us take for granted;  new sheet sets/towels, batteries, lightbulbs, flashlights, etc.”
3. How are you getting the word out?
“We are getting the word out with social media but would also love to be able to put our brochure out at other local Fuquay-Varina businesses.  We do want donors to realize we are not a “thrift shop”, we are only asking for what is listed in our post.  Recipients “shop” our household goods free of charge.”
4. Anything extra we should know about Front Porch Give Back?
“Drop off at our office Monday through Friday from 9am – 5pm!”

Our Schools Need Us!

Fuquay-Varina Bengal Proud!

I was recently asked to speak to a group of local Fuquay-Varina Middle and High School students as a business owner in the community.  I wanted to share my experiences, in hopes that more business members in our community would be inspired to volunteer. Each activity took me less than an hour.  I know that hour could lead to a big impact on these young adults as they begin to think about their future. As always, I know I got more out of it than they did! My friend, colleague, and educator, Mr. Rodney Jenkins, is the Career and Technical Education Coordinator for Fuquay-Varina Middle School. He recently approached me and asked if I would speak to his entrepreneurial class.  My topics included: why I started my own business, what’s involved with owning my own business, the hardest part, the easiest part and more.  I brought along my company’s advertising goodies like stadium cups and pens, and tossed some candy to the students that participated.  The students had awesome questions and provoked my own thoughts on why I do this. I was overjoyed to hear the students decided they are going to arrange a “field trip” to visit our office sometime soon.  I can’t wait to see them again! There are so many opportunities to get involved with students in Fuquay-Varina. I was also asked to address the first Fuquay-Varina Youth Leadership Group conference. This initiative is the first of its kind for Fuquay-Varina and the students selected to participate. I was asked to speak about Front Porch Realty’s application process and how I determine good candidates for our firm.

Laura Moody recently addressing both students and staff.

These bright, energetic high-schoolers had so many great questions for me!  They are eager to learn how to make a difference in our town and they are striving for greatness.  I commend the staff of Fuquay-Varina High school for working so diligently to start this leadership program and make a difference in these student’s lives. Imagine all the lucky businesses that get to hire these young folks someday! If you are interested in helping any of our community schools in ANY way please contact our office or join the FV Business Alliance. Our next meeting is coming up soon!
