Christmas Lights in Fuquay-Varina – UPDATED 2023
It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. From family gatherings to joyful music to holiday lights, the season is filled with many reasons to smile! To make your hectic holiday season a little easier, we have found four local Fuquay-Varina holiday light shows for you to visit this year! Some are free and some cost an entry fee, please plan accordingly!

Located at the corner of Holland Road and Powell Drive in Fuquay Varina – come visit the light show!! Runs daily from dusk to 10:30.
409 Holland Rd, Fuquay VarinaA few notes for visitors:1. We have music on a small speaker, as well as broadcasting on FM 90.9. Feel free to pull over and roll your windows down on Holland Rd or Powell Drive and get your car radio blasting!2. A good driving approach since we have the show in our backyard as well this year is to enter Powell Drive from England Avenue and then make a right on Holland. Please view from outside the picket fence or the end of our driveway – there are wires everywhere inside the fence and it’s a trip hazard. You can view from your car or feel free to get out and dance!3. We will be having a toy and food drive drive this year to benefit local kids in need of some Christmas cheer, it will be going to a local charity who will distribute to needy kids as well as the local food bank. If you feel led to give, we have a rubbermaid tote at the end of our driveway that you can leave something in. Please make sure the lid is sealed tight so everything stays dry.4. We have had several people ask about donating to our light show itself. While we do this for the community at no charge, it does take over 40 hours of setup and prep and usually a few hundred dollars of new material every year. Should you wish to donate, our Venmo is @Brent-Deitrich and Cash app is $brengamgee – Its not expected but always appreciated!

Fuquay-Varina Middle School, formally known as Fuquay Springs High School or “The Old Red Building”, was constructed around 1918 on the corner of Ennis and N Academy Street. Fuquay-Varina Middle School has ample amounts of History behind it’s construction. One interesting artifact that still resides inside of the since re-constructed Middle School is the School Bell that was used back when the school first opened.
Although still uncertain, these are the most up-to-date dates found for the School up until the new High School was built on Bengal Blvd.
- Fuquay Springs High School 1918 (first graduating class 1922)
- Fuquay-Varina High School 1967 (first graduating class)
- Fuquay-Varina Junior High School 1975 (with move of high school grades 10-12 that year)
- Fuquay-Varina Middle School 1977
- Ninth grade left the campus for Bengal Blvd in 1977.
2nd Quarter Market Update 2023
We are still seeing low inventories across our market; however, we are beginning to see a more balanced market, and even a slight buyer’s market at higher price points and with some new construction. Keep in mind, often new construction is listed at time of permit, so our “Active” numbers are a little skewed as “active” does not necessarily mean “available” for quite some time. Price/square foot has decreased over the last year due to an increase in new construction inventory; re-sale homes are still highly competitive as they are usually on larger lots and ready for immediate move-in.
I believe our local housing market is going to continue to be robust despite rising rates. We still have such a surplus of people moving into the entire Triangle area. Buyers right now are coming from all over the country in addition we always have local renters, empty nesters, and growing families staying locally in Fuquay-Varina. Enjoy live music featuring Spare Change (starting at 6:30pm), the Splash Pad will be open from 6pm-8pm, food trucks on site all evening, and fireworks starting at sundown (typically 9:15, weather permitting). Coolers are allowed however this is an alcohol free event. Head over at 6pm with your chairs & blankets to be sure you grab a good spot to view the fireworks! “Things to Do- The Aloha Safari Zoo has so many exciting things to see. Listed below are some things you should definitely check out during your visit! Stop by our goat and pig field near the zoo entrance to feed our livestock animals some treats that you can purchase at the front entrance. Remember, we ask that you don’t feed the horses or giraffe any food from the feed bag. Head to the Giraffe House to feed Titus the giraffe some snacks! Make sure to keep hats, sunglasses, cell phones, cameras, and umbrellas out of his reach! He likes to take souvenirs from visitors as well! (Opening March 18th) Take a ride through the drive through section of our park to see some of our larger hoof stock animals! They come right up to your vehicle, and you can pet and feed most of them! You will see and feed animals such as bison, zebra, ostriches, antelope, donkeys, llamas, water buffalo, camels, and even some animals you’ve never heard of! Tour our upper section of animals by foot by following the paved walkways! You will come face to face with tigers, lemurs, wolves, monkeys, and other exotic animals! Head to the Reptile Room to see some of our exotic reptiles such as bearded dragons, ball pythons, and Burmese pythons! Head through our indoor animal area of our main building to see exotic birds, iguanas and more! If you have any questions on any of the animals that you see on your visit or on the facility itself, be sure to find someone in a “Zoo Staff” T-Shirt and they will be happy to answer your questions! Stop by the Gift Shop at the entrance to pick up stuffed animals, t-shirts, and other souvenirs at the beginning, in the middle, or at the end of your tour! It’s at the main entrance to the zoo!
