August was “back to school month”. So Front Porch Realty hosted a school supply drive to help local Fuquay Varina schools and the many area teachers that buy extra supplies for their students in need.
Originally this was a challenge to our fellow Fuquay Varina businesses to collect what they could, get a little free publicity, and then I would deliver the supplies to our FVMS and FVHS counselors.
To our pleasant surprise, we ended up getting several visitors from within the community. Many of them wanted absolutely no recognition for their donations and were thrilled to find a place where they could drop off extra supplies and know that local families would benefit! We collected book bags, calculators, markers, lots of paper and notebooks and even cash donations that got turned into Walmart gift cards. I wish you could have seen the looks on the counselors faces and heard their gratitude when I brought in 4 huge tubs of supplies to our schools.
I have promised the schools that we will do it again. Watch Facebook this winter for details and THANK YOU Fuquay Varina for supporting local schools.
What an honor it has been to be able to work with the awesome young adults of Fuquay Varina High School’s Future Business Leaders of America group. After competing at the regional level, thirteen of these bright students have just moved on to state level at the NC State FBLA conference in Greensboro. A record nine of these students have placed in their competitive events and qualified for the national competition in Chicago June 29-July 2, 2015.
Please join FRONT PORCH REALTY in helping to fund their trip to Chicago. Contact Mr. Bob Lee, M.Ed., Special Populations Coordinator, FBLA Advisor, FVHS, 919-557-2561, rlee@wcpss.net for details on how you can contribute.
The success of these bright students says so much for their leadership advisor, Mr. Bob Lee. Mr. Lee has continually increased the FBLA membership at the high school along with going above and beyond to help his students compete at that high level. How fortunate are both these hard working kids and FV High School, to have Mr. Lee’s dedication!
As many of you may know, I have a passion for helping the schools and children of our community. Recently, I responded to an announcement in one of the latest Chamber Thursday Forecasts about Fuquay Varina High School needing some help with their Future Business Leaders of America Club. I had the PLEASURE of meeting with their group two weeks ago to talk about resume writing and interviewing. I learned of how much these High School students would love to do an unpaid (or paid!) internship with a Fuquay Varina business.
I will be offering an internship with my company in the Spring and would love to see some more local business owners do the same. These kids are extremely intelligent and mature and I believe any of them would be an asset to any of your businesses.
If you can find a way to offer any kind of internship in the coming year please get in touch with the FBLA chair, Mr. Lee. Mr. Lee and his group have been a pleasure to work with and I know you will find it as rewarding as I have!
